ABOUT THE CONCERT

Beethoven’s only mature piano quartet is based on his quintet for piano and winds, which was a nod to Mozart’s sublime composition for the same instrumentation years earlier. The swiss born American composer Ernest Bloch is most famous for bringing the mystic colors of Jewish music to the concert stage and his Piano Quintet No. 1 is a monumental composition that could be a precursor and influence to the film scores of the legendary films of the 1950s. Brahms wrote his String Quintet in G major as his final composition before retiring at the height of his powers. The composition pushes each instrument to their limits as uses the sound of five parts to imitate a full orchestra.
